Join us for an author talk followed by Q & A with Kai Harris, author of What the Fireflies Knew. Dr. Kai Harris is a writer and educator from Detroit, Michigan, whose critically acclaimed debut novel What the Fireflies Knew is a Marie Claire Book Club pick, Book of the Month add-on, and was longlisted for the Center for Fiction's First Novel Prize. Kai’s writing, which centers on the Black experience, has appeared in Guernica, Lit Hub, Kweli Journal, Longform, and the Hilltop Review, amongst others. Kai currently lives in the Bay Area where she is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Santa Clara University.

Partnership With Silicon Valley Reads

Silicon Valley Reads is a community engagement program that features books and an annual theme to bring people together by providing more than 100 free, public events each year in February and March. Events for all ages include author talks, book clubs, art/music events, community activities, arts and crafts, movies, and creative events or activities based on the theme each year.

The 2023 season signifies the 20th Anniversary of Silicon Valley Reads.
